Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Cortex.

How does Cortex work?

Cortex uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to read your incoming notifications. It summarizes them, assigns an importance level, and filters out the noise. It then shows you a single, clean "Glance" notification containing only what matters, when you need it.

How does Cortex protect my privacy?

Your privacy is our top priority. With the Local AI engine, all processing happens entirely on your device, and no data is ever sent to the cloud. If you opt for the premium Cloud AI engine for higher quality, notification content is sent to our secure servers for processing and is deleted immediately. We never store, log, or sell your data.

What's the difference between Local AI and Cloud AI?

Local AI is free, works offline, and is 100% private. Cloud AI is a premium feature that offers significantly higher quality summaries, better importance detection, and enables advanced features like auto-replies and natural language rules, all while saving your phone's battery.

What about battery life?

The Local AI engine will use more battery since it performs heavy processing on your device. The Cloud AI offloads this work to our servers, which is more battery-efficient. Both modes are continuously being optimized for minimal impact on performance.

Why does Cortex need special permissions?

Three key permissions allow Cortex to function correctly:

  • Notification Access: This is the core permission allowing Cortex to read and manage your notifications.
  • Run Uninterrupted (Battery Optimization): This ensures Cortex can reliably process notifications in the background without being shut down by the operating system.
  • Display Notifications: This permission is required for Cortex to show you its own "The Glance" summary.
